How to Determine Whether Lead-Acid Batteries or Lithium Iron Phosphate Batteries Need to be Replaced?

Mar. 01, 2025

In the realm of modern power usage, batteries play a crucial role. At our company, we offer a wide array of power products, some of which are equipped with lead-acid batteries, while others feature lithium iron phosphate batteries. These two types of batteries have distinct characteristics and lifespans, and understanding when they need to be replaced is essential for optimal performance.

Lead-acid batteries have been a staple in the power industry for decades. Our products like the [model name] with 150W power, utilize lead-acid batteries. Under normal circumstances, a lead-acid battery can last for about 300 - 500 charge-discharge cycles. However, if you notice that the device's runtime is significantly reduced, say, an electric scooter that used to travel 30 kilometers on a full charge now only manages 15 kilometers or less, it's a strong indication that the battery capacity has diminished. Another telltale sign is a change in charging time. If it previously took 8 hours to fully charge and now it's done in 4 or 5 hours, yet the battery drains quickly during use, it could mean sulfation on the battery plates, signaling the need for replacement. Physical conditions also matter. If the battery casing shows signs of bulging or leaking, which can be caused by internal gas buildup or seal failure, it's time to consider a new battery.

On the other hand, lithium iron phosphate batteries are renowned for their longevity and high performance. In our product line, the [another model name] with 300W power employs this type of battery. These batteries can typically endure over 2000 charge-discharge cycles. To gauge if they need replacing, monitor the device's endurance. For an electric vehicle, if the range drops by around 20% from its initial value, it's worth checking the battery health. Charging and discharging behaviors are key too. If during charging, the battery heats up abnormally, or the charging speed slows down drastically and fails to reach full capacity, there might be issues with the battery's internal structure or management system. In a battery pack, voltage imbalance among individual cells can also degrade overall performance. If the voltage difference between cells exceeds 0.3 - 0.5V, maintenance or replacement might be necessary.

It's important to note that regardless of the battery type, improper use and lack of protection can drastically shorten their lifespans. Overcharging, over-discharging, exposure to extreme temperatures, and physical impacts can all damage the batteries. Therefore, when using our power products, following the recommended usage guidelines is crucial to extend battery life. If you do notice any of the aforementioned signs of battery degradation, don't hesitate to replace the battery to ensure the reliable operation of your devices.
