Explain the power of portable power station in detail

Jan. 26, 2025

1. The basic concept of output power (W)

1. Output power is a very critical parameter of portable power station. It represents the maximum power that the power station can provide to the outside, and the unit is watt (W). For example, a portable power station with a 300W output power means that when it is working, the total power of all connected and used devices cannot exceed 300W. This is like a faucet, its maximum water output speed is fixed, and this water output speed is similar to the output power of the power station.

2. The power determines how many devices the power station can power at the same time and whether it can meet the needs of specific high-power devices. For some devices with lower power requirements, such as smartphones (generally charging power is around 5-20W), tablets (generally charging power is around 10-30W) and laptops (generally charging power is around 30-100W), portable power stations with lower output power can meet the needs of simultaneous charging. But if you want to use high-power devices such as small electric kettles (usually 1000-1500W) or portable air conditioners (power may be above 1000W), you need a power station with higher output power.

2. Relationship with device use

1. Simultaneous power supply capability: Output power can help users determine whether the power station can power multiple devices at the same time. Assume that a power station has an output power of 500W, there is a laptop (power 65W), a tablet (power 20W) and two smartphones (power 10W each), the total power of these devices is 65 + 20 + 10 × 2 = 105W, which is less than 500W, so this power station can power these devices at the same time.

2. High-power device support: Different devices have very different power requirements. Take a small electric drill as an example, its power may be around 300-500W. If the output power of the power station is only 200W, it cannot provide enough power for the electric drill to work properly. Therefore, when considering the use of high-power devices, it is necessary to ensure that the output power of the power station can meet the minimum power requirements of the device.

3. Considerations in practical applications

1. Power margin: When selecting the output power of a portable power station, it is best to reserve a certain power margin. This is because there may be a power peak at the moment of device startup. For example, some devices with motors, such as small air purifiers, may use 30-50% more power at startup than during normal operation. If the output power of the power station is exactly equal to the rated power of the device, overload protection or failure to start may occur when the device starts.

2. Dynamic power adjustment: Some advanced portable power stations have dynamic power adjustment function. When the power demand of the connected device changes, the power station can automatically adjust the output power. For example, when a device switches from standby to working state, the power demand increases, and the power station can allocate more power to the device in time to ensure its normal operation. This function can improve the efficiency of the power station and the compatibility of devices.
